Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The 23rd annual Port Elgin Rotary Club-Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Classic is today at Saugeen Golf Club.
Beginning in the mid-90's and running year after year at Saugeen, the Rotary Club has conducted this event as a major fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy and there's no denying how successful the venture has been, having bypassed $ 1.4 million in funds generated.
The list of celebrities who have participated through the years is impressive and once again there will be familiar faces like Les Binkley and Bryan Lewis along with relative newcomers like Garrett McFadden and Kevin Czuczman.
From Day 1 it's been a great event and as a testament to what takes place, they're approaching the quarter century mark.
Also on the go this weekend, Sauble Speedway presents the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup tomorrow in auto racing, while Saturday night's card at Hanover Raceway features the final night of qualifying in the Survivor Series
Further to yesterday's comment, the Ontario Senior Lacrosse Semifinal between the Owen Sound NorthStars and Six Nations Rivermen begins Saturday night at Six Nations
Game 2 in the best of 5 will be Sunday afternoon at 4 pm in Owen Sound.
Sunday is also Minor Lacrosse day and we remind all registered Minor Lacrosse Players that admission to the game is free, so it should be quite a scene at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
Along with lacrosse, there's several Bluewater Fastball games, plus Grey Motors United goes back to Kitchener for a soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
Have a great weekend.
I'm Fred Wallace
