Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
With the Toronto Blue Jays hopelessly out of contention for a playoff spot in both the American League East and the Wildcard, my focus for Summer ball has shifted significantly to the world of fastball.
Thankfully, there's lots of interesting avenues to pursue in that regard.
The biggest event right now is at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where the World Under 19 Men's Softball Championships are being staged.
Just two weeks after being in Owen Sound for a competitive doubleheader against the Junior Selects, Team New Zealand lost 8-5 to Team Canada last night in a showdown game
Owen Torrie of Williamsford pitched 2 & 2/3rds innings of relief for Canada and did not give up a run against
With the victory, Canada is 4 & 0
The Canadian entry also includes Logan Tolton of Clifford, Teeswater's Mac Fischer plus Mac Mulvey out of Wingham are on the Softball Canada entry who have a bye today before playing Hong Kong tomorrow night
Aside from the Under 19, there's Bluewater Fastball League play tonight in Port Elgin as the Blue Devils host the
Saugeen Thunderbirds, while the Owen Sound Men's Fastball League has a doubleheader at Duncan McLellan Park with games at 7 & at 8:30 pm
Plus, there's Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League action tonight at both Tara and in Meaford.
The doubleheader in Tara tonight commences at 7 pm while the Leeky Canoe game in Meaford is an 8:30 start at William Croft Athletic Field.
