Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The annual Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Father's Day Heritage Tournament was staged over the weekend and climaxed with an Owen Sound entry taking a title.
In the Midget Final, the Crescent Club NorthStars pulled away in the late going to hand the Orillia Kings a 7-3 defeat in the Championship Game.
Crescent Club Captain Brayden Krueger scored twice in the victory while Calvin Stewart, Joel Coghlin, Sam Shakes, Reed Stauffer & Jesse Woods also scored for Owen Sound.
And while goals are the name of the game in lacrosse, it was actually the goaltending of Kaleb Martin that backstopped the win.
Until the Crescent Club pulled away, Martin was the story of the game holding the affair tight with a sequence of blocks, all of which might bode well for the Owen Sound Junior NorthStars somewhere down the road...we'll talk about the Junior NorthStars later.
The other 4 divisional winners were Niagara-on-the-Lake in Bantam. the Centre Wellington Peewees, Pelham in the Novice Final in overtime and the Sarnia Tykes.
The Owen Sound Tournament has a long history, commencing in the late 1980's, morphing into the Harry Kazarian Memorial Tournament for a quarter of a century and now continuing, and continuing strongly I might add, as evidenced by this weekend and highlighted by a Midget title for Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse.
