Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There's a significant game in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse tonight in Owen Sound.
The Junior NorthStars host the Guelph Regals in a pivotal game in both the MidWest Division and the Western Conference.
Coming into the game, Owen Sound is 3 & 6 after splitting their games last weekend which included a clutch win at Guelph.
The Regals have played 1 more game than Owen Sound and hold a mark of 3 & 7 midway through their season.
Both Owen Sound and Guelph are sitting at 6 points and the winner tonight will take a definitive step towards a playoff spot.
Yes, Owen Sound and Guelph still have 2 more head to head games after tonight, but....
The fact of the matter is, even at the midway point, almost every playoff spot is the Western Conference is spoken for.
The OLA format allows the top 2 teams in each of the 3 divisions within a conference to advance to the post season, plus the 2 teams with the next highest point total also advance.
Positions 1 & 2 in the Midwest Division for Elora & Orangeville look set barring the unforeseen.
Likewise in the Far West, it would take a disaster to prevent Wallaceburg and Windsor from advancing.
And in the South West, Six Nations is home and cooled out while either Hamilton or Niagara will get the 2nd spot.
Both Hamilton and Niagara have head-to-head wins over Owen Sound which likely accounts for one of those teams to get the 7th playoff spot.
All of which leaves the Junior NorthStars and Guelph deadlocked in points for the final playoff spot going into the game tonight which is an 8 pm start at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
