OHL, NHL, No Hitters & Junior NorthStars
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There's several notable items on the sporting agenda, both near & far.
In Sault Ste Marie tonight, the Greyhounds host the Hamilton Bulldogs in Game 5 of the Robertson Cup Championship Series.
The best of 7 is tied at 2.
The Bulldogs got a split at the Soo.
The Greyhounds got a split in the Hammer.
It's been fun to watch....but it would be better if the West was represented by our guys.
In the big leagues tonight, Game 1 of the NHL Eastern Conference Final goes at Tampa Bay as the Lightning host the Washington Capitals.
My call, for tonight and for the series, is Tampa Bay. ( Yes, I do have a hockey pool rooting interest here ).
Game 1 of the Western Conference Final is tomorrow night as the remarkable Golden Knights of Vegas are in Winnipeg to meet the Jets who eliminated Nashville last night in Game 7
The Golden Knights have achieved on historic proportions for an NHL Expansion squad.
Can they advance to the final ?
It was an historic week in baseball as Canadian James Paxton tossed a no-hitter for the Seattle Mariners in a 5-0 win at Toronto against the Blue Jays.
The only other Canadian pitcher to toss a no-hitter in the big leagues was Dick Fowler who did in 1945.
Finally, in Junior B Lacrosse tonight, the Owen Sound Junior NorthStars are at Guelph to face the Regals and THEN they'll be at Niagara on Sunday.
For the Junior NorthStars it's their 8th & 9th game of the season, but at 2 & 5, the potential for a playoff spot is hanging in the balance.
While not clinched, 6 of the 8 playoff spots in the Western Conference are virtually spoken for.
That leaves the Junior NorthStars scrambling with Guelph, Niagara and maybe a couple of others for the final 2 post season spots, so wins or losses tonight and Sunday might just decide their fate before the middle of May.
The Owen Sound Liuna 1059 Senior NorthStars are at Ennismore Saturday night & Sunday afternoon
The home opener for the Senior Stars is May 25th.
Have a great weekend.
I'm Fred Wallace
