The Off the Wire Debut of Alex Cunningham
Hi, I'm Alex Cunningham with " Off the Wire ".
This is a BIG week for elementary cross country runners.
The annual Bluewater West Meet goes tomorrow at Saugeen Bluffs near Paisley.
Then on Thursday, the Bluewater East Meet will be staged at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound.
Jason Gallagher from Hillcrest School is one of the organizers for the Bluewater East Meet.
Gallagher says the meet is one of the biggest events of the elementary school year with about 17 schools and over 1,000 students participating.
Of note, this is the first year the event has been held at the soccer complex after being at the Meaford Tank Range for many years.
Everything else remains the same at the event. The younger kids will stay on the soccer complex while the older students will use the trail.
The organizers encourage parents and spectators to come and cheer on the kids because they work hard for this. The organizers notified the schools of the time slots for each division so parents can come watch their kids race during their scheduled time slot.
This event is very important to student and youth fitness as it encourages exercise and makes it fun for the students.
I'm Alex Cunningham, thanks for listening
