OHL Final resumes Tonight

Length:

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off The Wire ".

The Ontario Hockey League Championship Series resumes tonight at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

The Western Conference Champion Erie Otters lead the Eastern Champion Mississauga Steelheads 2 games to 1 in the best of 7 for the Robertson Cup and for the right to advance to the Memorial Cup later this month at Windsor.

I'm guessing a LOT of people are like me; somewhat surprised that Erie won't sweep the series and extremely surprised we've had 3 one-goal games to this point in the Final.

To the credit of the Steelheads, Erie, who were expected to romp, have had to exert as much effort, maybe more, than they did in their previous series with London and the Owen Sound Attack.

Yes, there are those who will tell you emphatically that the reason the Championship Series is tight is that Mississauga had a softer path to the Final........we can discuss that all day.

I still expect Erie to win the series and I won't be surprised if any of the remaining games get lopsided in terms of the score.

But, my view is based on Erie's star power & their depth depth as opposed to the Steelheads whose lineup lacks the Otters marquee value & whose 4th line has the best seats in the house game after game after game.

Regardless, an OHL Championship Series that was expected to be a cakewalk for the Western Champion Otters could evolve into a whole new dimension should the Steelheads win at home tonight in Mississauga.

I'm Fred Wallace
