A little more hockey today, but the Minor Hockey variety instead of the OHL & the upcoming Priority Selection.
Owen Sound hosted the Ontario Hockey Federation Peewee " A " Championship tournament earlier this month and did so with such flair, others have taken note and may use much of the Owen Sound blueprint in future events.
Would Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group hold another such event ?
The answer is " no " ,.........& " yes ".
No, because the OHF is totally different than the other tournaments the Minor Hockey Group conduct.
The three Fall Classic tournaments are designed as fundraisers and create a decent pool of finances, which in turn allows the Minor Hockey Group to run a successful Rep program of their own.
By comparison, the OHF tournament is about showcasing and as such, the expenses facing the host centre start at 5 digits, from which you try and chop the figures down.
Initially, Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group expected to lose money on hosting the OHF Peewee Tournament, but thanks to banquet ticket sales, sponsorship assistance and a decent run at the gate propelled by a competitive local entry, the Harold Sutherland Construction Attack Peewees, they managed to turn a teeny-tiny profit.
Now in fairness, they could have turned the same profit selling chocolate bars at the Beer Store for 2 hours on Saturday.
But the point is, they now understand the starting cost and the factors involved to make the tournament a success from every level, and not have a financial fiasco on their hands.
Will they host another OHF Tournament ?
It's my understanding they'd like to have a similar event at the Midget level to honor the Crescent Club for their support within the next half decade.
