The Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection is Saturday.
The Sarnia Sting pick first, the Belleville Bulls 2nd, the Oshawa Generals 3rd & then Owen Sound has the # 4 pick.
So here's what we know, or more accurately, here's what we don't know.
It's understood that Sarnia has tipped their hand and Friday will formally announce that they will select Alex Galchenyuk first overall.
Belleville is the exact opposite, holding their card very tight to their chest.
Earlier, I heard Marcus McIvor was the candidate, but even McIvor shot that theory down.
With Silas, Basso, Strong and Luciani already in place, does Belleville need another young defender ?
Likely not. So a forward to Belleville.
At # 3, Oshawa has been linked to both a forward & a defender with the last buzz being they might be among the earliest to try and attract high profile-high cost defender Nick Ebert.
So the road to Owen Sound will not include Galchenyuk or Ebert, neither of which appeal to the Attack in the first place, nor the players Belleville & Oshawa select, if it's a forward.
By my tabulation, that leaves Owen Sound wanting to select Brendan Gaunce from Markham or Scott Laughton of the Marlies, if Oshawa or Belleville doesn't scoop Gaunce then Laughton first.
In the event Gaunce goes to Belleville & Laughton to Oshawa, then Owen Sound's pick will likely be Jarod Maidens from Hamilton with consideration to Mathew Campagna of the Young Nats
