Humbling Results

By Fred Wallace

Hockey is a humbling game. Very humbling.

Now matter who you are; no matter how smart you think you are; no matter how much hockey you watch; you never get it totally right, do you ?

Tonight in the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires will try and stay alive again, when they host the Kitchener Rangers.

I watch the OHL almost every night, live or on the tube and the fact that the Spitfires are clinging to their playoff lives is amazing to me. I think the Kitchener Rangers would tell you it's amazing to them.

In the NHL, the Philadelphia Flyers qualified for the playoffs by beating the New York Rangers in a shootout on the final day- they barely got in.

If the Flyers win at New Jersey tonight, they'll be among the first teams to advance to the second round !!

In fact, outside of the Pittsburgh-Ottawa series, what NHL playoff series has followed the form chart and handicapping sheet ?

It's an underdog's festival out there.

Which may also explain my playoff hockey pool performance.

After spending hours tabulating and selecting, my band of 10 sits dead last, hopelessLY out of contention within 1 week.

Very humbling.

I'm Fred Wallace
