So I'm tapped out, & waiting for my buddy, " Whitey ", to finish up at the Craps Table in Niagara Falls, but he gets on a " heater " and it looks like it's going to be a prolonged wait.
In the interim, I walk into the Magazine Shop at Casino Niagara and buy a copy of the Hockey News.
Eventually, I get to the NHL depth chart where the lines, defence pairings, injured players and spares are listed and I start a highly unscientific project.
Every time I come to an Ontario Hockey League graduate, I assign him to the OHL franchise from whence he came, and tabulate which OHL franchise has graduated the most players to the NHL.
There are snags, of course.
Who gets credit for Brian McGrattan of the Flames who was drafted into the OHL by Guelph and then subsequently traded to Sudbury, Mississauga, the Attack, Oshawa and finally the Sault ?
In that case, no points are awarded.
I also had to make some difficult assignments in the cases of Clarkson, Montador, Staubitz, Girardi, Quincey, Stillman, Shremp & Cooke; but I think I've been fair here.
Just as fair when tabulating the Attack, whereby Owen Sound gets credit for Joshua Bailey & Wayne Simmonds, but not for Paul Bissonnette.
Like I said, it was a highly unscientific spur-of-the-moment project while waiting for " Whitey ".
Which OHL franchise do you think has the most grads playing in the NHL as of mid March 2010 ?
Tomorrow; the results.
