In a post mortem of the Owen Sound Attack, conducted by Fred Wallace, we've identified a half dozen significant reasons why a capable team on paper, is back to the drawing board without an OHL Playoff berth.
The biggest factor I felt was injuries.
The next most significant factor is defence and team defence, an area that plagued the team again this year and has been an historical weak point for the franchise forever.
I think Owen Sound currently has two exceptional goalies in Scott Stajcer and Jordan Binnington.
Maybe one day, they will join Jamie Storr, Kevin Weekes, Brent Johnson, Curtis Sanford and Dan LaCosta as Owen Sound alumni who have elevated their play right to the National Hockey League.
Why is it, in more than 2 decades, we've sent more goalies than defencemen to the NHL ?
Name all the defenders drafted and developed in Owen Sound since 1989 that have progressed to the NHL level......
If you don't count Scott Walker, a defenceman converted to forward in pro, and you don't count both Mark Giordano and Andrej Sekera who were well on their way long before they arrived here, the answer is .......NONE !!!
NONE....& that's staggering.
Why, as an organization, have neither the Platers nor the Attack, identified, drafted and developed defenders ?
I want to finish this thought thought tomorrow.
