Ford-Wayne Gretzky Classic

By Fred Wallace

I really want to talk about the ProTeam NorthStars playoff series with Windsor and the upcoming Junior B playoff series with Elora, but I'll save that for tomorrow.

And, as yesterday, I want to remind everyone, the Verge Senior Selects are at home in international fastball tonight against Australia and then Thursday night versus the touring National Team from New Zealand.

Both doubleheaders are 7:30 starts at Duncan McLellan Park.

But moreso today, I want to direct the attention to the Thornbury region where the second Ford-Wayne Gretzky Golf Classic is underway.

The Nationwide Pros are conducting Youth clinics today, there will be practice rounds for both the pros and the celebrities tomorrow and then we get down to business, and pleasure, on Thursday.

Once again, from a celebrity standpoint, there's an impressive lineup of stars from the world of sports and entertainment hosted by the Great One who generates tremendous dollars for charity at this event.

And while it is fun, it's very much a business for the more then 150 Nationwide Pros competing.

This stop, like every stop the Nationwide Pros play, represents a step closer, or a step farther away from the big time as the top 25 at the end of the year graduate to the PGA Tour,

So enjoy the Ford-Gretzky Classic this week.

Sure, it's fun, but it's also the livelihood for the Nationwide Pros.

I'm Fred Wallace
