Harry Kazarian Memorial Minor Lacrosse Tournament Recap

By Fred Wallace

The 20th annual Harry Kazarian Memorial Minor Lacrosse Tournament wrapped up Sunday with 7 championship games at the J.D. McArthur Arena.

By and large the championship games were above average, in particular in the Novice Division & the Intermediate Division.

In Novice, Six Nations stunned Whitby with a come from behind 3-2 win.

Actually the best part of that game for me was a lengthy chat with former Owen Sound Plater Ryan Davis whose nephew was on the Six Nations squad.

Meanwhile, the Intermediate Final was an exceptionally fleet game with London prevailing over Whitby 7-5. Those kids were fast !

Likely the most disappointing affair of the day was the Bantam " B " Final as the Owen Sound Water Store crushed Gloucester in a game that was decided in about 6 minutes.

It's always special & meaningful when an Owen Sound team gets to the Kazarian Final at any level, but this one won't be remembered as a classic.

Having said that, I don't want to take anything away from the Water Store NorthStar Bantams who worked hard to get there, and played well to win it all.

Furthermore, results aside, you've got to be impressed with the longevity of this tournament, and highly impressed with both Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse and the Kazarian Family for making this a major sporting event from the past, for today, and for what looks like the long term future.

I'm Fred Wallace
