Did you catch the news last week ?
Right out of the blue, the Collingwood Blues of the Ontario Junior Hockey League announced they will be the host center for an NCAA College Showcase Weekend in 2010.
The Showcase Weekend is confirmed and booked for the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena for Friday January 8th through Sunday the 10th.
The format for the weekend will have 15 different OJHL teams playing two games apiece in the central location of Collingwood, in front of scouts from every description.
Darrell Mussell, the Director of Hockey Operations for the Blues anticipates close to 100 scouts will be in Collingwood for the three days representing the NCAA, Canadian universities, the Ontario Hockey League & the National Hockey League.
The Town of Collingwood is all over this, and why not ?
What's the potential impact of 300 hockey players and assorted managers, fans and coaches spending two to 3 days in your community ?
I think this is a huge coup for the Blues allowing them spotlight their team, their organization, their facility and their community over the course of 3 hectic days.
And if the Blues do well as hosts, which I think they will, could this become a fixture, or maybe a stepping stone for hosting a Dudley Hewitt Tournament in the near future ?
