Bench Talk / Off The Wire

By Fred Wallace

I know it seems early, but it's a pretty big night for the Owen Sound ProTeam NorthStars.

In fact, it's a pretty big sequence of lacrosse games in Owen Sound starting tonight.

In Junior B play this evening, the NorthStars host the Orangeville Northmen in the always tough Mid West Division.

The 4 clubs in the division, including Owen Sound, all have two wins on the season and all 4 teams have also tasted defeat.

Such is the history & tradition of this group of 4.

For the North Stars though, their record of 2 & 3 leaves them among 7 teams who are not division leaders, of which there is room for 5 to advance to a playoff spot.

Furthermore, Owen Sound has not had any success on the road to this point, so home floor tonight is key, especially considering the opposition, the Northmen who handled Owen Sound earlier on their home turf.

And don't forget, Saturday night, the Stars have another key home date, this time with Wallaceburg.

Between tonight and Saturday, the defending Canadian Senior Champion Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen have a home game against the 2009 President Cup hosting Ohsweken Warriors.

That's a good sequence of lacrosse in Owen Sound very early in the year.
