OHL Priority Selection

By Fred Wallace

Later this week, the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection will be staged.

The Owen Sound Attack will be picking 9th overall and have high hopes of incorporating picks 9, 29, 40 & 49 into their roster next year.

But between now and Saturday there are things to be aware of, things the Attack may not even announce.

For example, if the Attack & another OHL member swap draft picks this week, you can almost bet they'll hold those selection only briefly and then flip them back to their trading partner in exchange for bodies, most likely a defenceman to Owen Sound in exchange for a netminder.

As I write this though, the chances of that look extremely slim.

All of which brings us to the Priority Selection.

The Sudbury Wolves at pick # 5 are the flux card, although I'd assume with a roster of good to great forwards, they'd seek a defender in the draft.

Nevertheless, the way I chart it is as follows;

Daniel Catenacci, Alan Quine, Justin Sefton in 1-2-3 order.

Then, with less certainty, I'll call Mathew Puempel, wait for Sudbury's pick, then follow with Scott Harrington, Lucas Lessio & Ryan Murphy, all of which brings us to # 9 and Owen Sound.

According to OHL Central Scouting, that leaves a still rich pool of Boone Jenner, Curtis Crombeen, Ryan Strome & maybe Stuart Percy at Owen Sound's pick.

Who Owen Sound selects from the group may have more to do with the fading trade possibilities above, but if there are no transactions, I'd lean towards Curtis Crombeen as a blueliner for the Attack.
