The road from Lion's Head to the Frozen Four in hockey can't be a direct one.
The NCAA Hockey Championship begins tomorrow at Ford Field in Detroit.
The four teams competing are Miami of Ohio, Boston College, Wisconsin and Rochester Institute of Technology.
Of the 4 participants, the R.I.T. squad is notable for a variety of reasons, but in particular in these parts, because Trevor Eckenswiller of Lion's Head is on the squad.
Eckenswiller, a Biomedical Sciences Major at R.I.T., has taken a lengthy route to the NCAA from Lion's Head Minor Hockey, to the Grey Bruce Highlanders Program, onto Junior at Stratford, then Oakville before arriving at R.I.T.
Unfortunately, injuries have also followed Eckenswiller, and as we speak, he's recovering from a torn ACL, damaged at midseason.
Eckswiller relates he's been cleared, he's been on his skates, but he doesn't anticipate seeing game action unless the Rochester roster loses bodies.
Nevertheless, you can imagine the excitement of going from Lion's Head to Ford Field for the NCAA Hockey Championships and if not Trevor Eckenswiller, we'll be watching the R.I.T. Tigers when they open the Frozen Four tomorrow against Wisconsin.
