2010 SMHLPA Tournament

Fred

By Fred Wallace

The 2010 SMHLPA Easter Weekend Oldtimers Tournament was staged last weekend.

Was it the best SMHLPA tournament ever ?

Regardless of whether it was the best, or close to the best, there remains a variety of people to thank, starting with the arena staff at both the Coliseum & the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.

Isn't it great to know that your city can host everything in hockey from an OHL team to a " AAA " Minor Bantam Championship, to an Ontario Peewee Tournament this week, to the many demands of the aging oldtimers event last weekend ?

Hope we didn't leave too much of a mess.

Thank you as well to the referees, the linesmen & timekeepers, many of whom are connected to the SMHLPA, all of whom kept things moving right along for 3 straight days.

The dance ?

Well, thanks to everyone inside and outside of the tournament who attended, and especially our thanks to that band, an offshoot of the Geoff Stevens Band, the hardest
working band on 14th Street, who played it all and kept the hall rocking.

I don't know exactly how much money was raised by the dance, & by the tournament itself, but in the end, we fully anticipate making a solid financial donation in the fight against cancer.

Was it the best SMHLPA Tournament of all time ?

Thankfully, we'll get another chance to do it better next year.

I'm Fred Wallace
