A high school lacrosse player is the 2016 Orillia Athlete of Year.
17-year-old Quintin Hoch-Bullen received the award at Monday's Council meeting.
Hoch-Bullen is from Orillia and is currently attending Hill Academy in Vaughan.
She plans to attend the University of Denver once she graduates.
Hoch-Bullen joins other Orillia Athlete of the Year winners including Brian Orser (1986), Bill Watters (1960), and Walter Henry (1958).
Hoch-Bullen says she is honoured to be among past winners including 2007 recipient Jayme Beard who once coached her in lacrosse.
She says she looks up to those people and seeing where they went after winning the award.
Hoch-Bullen says being from Orillia it is a big deal to be named Athlete of the Year.
She says people will appreciate that and is proud to get the award.
Hoch-Bullen says it is a dream of hers to play lacrosse in the United States.
She says she has seen other girls go to the states and get an opportunity to get an education.
Two other athletes were also up for the award: multi-sport athlete Owen Kaczanowski and runner Jasmin Aggarwal.
