McNiven Earns Huron Tractor Player of the Week Honours
After stopping 55 of 57 shots in 120 minutes of action, Michael McNiven has been named the Owen Sound Attack's Huron Tractor Player of the Week for Week 20 of the Ontario Hockey League season.
The 19 year old Georgetown native posted his 28th and 29th wins of the year in 5-2 and 5-0 victories over Hamilton in Kingston on the week.
With the victories, McNiven improved to 29-8-1-1 on the year and has a goals against average of 2.21, 2nd in the OHL, and a save percentage of .919, which is good for 3rd in the league.
McNiven is now tied with Curtis Sanford for 2nd all time in wins for a goaltender with the Attack/Platers franchise at 65.
That wasn't the only franchise record list that McNiven climbed on the weekend either.
His 5-0 shutout of the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday, Feb. 12 was the 10th of his career (nine regular season, one post season), which ties Jordan Binnington for first in franchise history.
McNiven and the Attack - who have won four straight games - will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when they host the Flint Firebirds at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in a 7:00pm puck drop. Tickets are limited to standing room only and can be purchased at the MacVicar & McComb ReMax Attack Box Office.
