Winterhawks Hand Out Awards

Hawke and Underwood win team MVP awards for the Winterhawks.

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks officially capped off their 2015/16 WOAA Senior Hockey League season at their annual awards banquet.

Awards were presented Friday night to ten players.

The awards were presented as follows:

Jim Little Memorial Award (Rookie of the Year): Jay Thomson

Corry Solomway Memorial Award (Dedication to Hockey & the Community): Greg Thede

Most Dedicated Winterhawk: Greg Thede and Kevin McGivern

Leading Scorer (Regular Season): Brent MacDermid

Top Defenceman Award: Nick Quaid and Trevor Smith

Top Defensive Player Award: Andy Mitchell

Most Valuable Player (Playoffs): Trent Hawke

Most Valuable Player (Regular Season): Blake Underwood

Coach's Award: Curtis Johnston

The team also presented cheques to Special Olympics Central Bruce, Women's House serving Bruce and Grey & The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation as part of the proceeds from this season's 50/50 sales.

The Winterhawks also presented a cheque for $7,000 to the Liv-A-Little Foundation, representing the proceeds of the jersey auction from the Port Elgin Sunocos retro night in January.

The Winterhawks will open their 10th hockey season in October.
