Kincardine Bulldogs Take Lead In Series Against Goderich, Flyers Face Elimination

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Bulldogs topple Flyers 4-3 in Game 3 of their first round PJHL series, with Goderich facing elimination Friday.

The Goderich Flyers face elimination in their Provincial Junior Hockey League opening round playoff series against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

An untimely Goderich penalty called 50 seconds into the third period, sparked a three-goal Kincardine rally that saw the Bulldogs skate off with a 4-3 victory.

The Flyers trail the best-of-seven series, three games to one.

A dejected Goderich head coach Ethan Scott tells Country 104.9 Sports that special teams were a factor throughout the game.

The Flyers were unable to cash in on a nine-minute power play in the first period, after Kincardine's Kaleb Martin was ejected on a five-minute fighting penalty and two minor infractions.

The Goderich power play came alive in the second period, with goals by Kaden Hoggarth and Jeff Fritzley coming with the extra skater.

Jack Stecho and Avery Timmermans set up the Hoggarth goal, while Fritzley's tally was assisted by Chad Treble and Matt Bean.

Chad Treble increased the Goderich lead to 3-1, with his penalty-shot effort at 16:10 of the middle frame.

Two of Kincardine's three goals in the third period were scored on the power play.

Mike Feighen led the Bulldogs with three goals, while Jerrid Fossold accounted for a single.

Scott admits his club has a steep hill to climb, with Game Five coming up in Kincardine on Friday.

He attributes the difference in the Flyers' performances to the fact that the Davidson Centre is a tough building to play in and the Bulldogs tend to dominate.

Goderich lost Game One in Kicardine by a 7-1 margin, where they also fell 7-2 in Game Three.

Game Five is an 8:30pm start at the Davidson on Friday.

If the Flyers can prolong the series with a road victory, Game Six would be played at the Zurich Community Centre, Saturday at 7:30pm.
