Woman Charged After Collision in Owen Sound

Owen Sound | by Matt Hermiz

Driver ran through red light and struck another vehicle, causing a small fire.

A 31-year-old Owen Sound woman faces an impaired driving charge after a collision in the city's west side last night.

City police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene at 2nd Avenue West and 14th Street West just after 9 p.m. Thursday.

Owen Sound Police say the 31-year-old woman failed to stop for a red light and struck another vehicle.

As a result, a small fire started in the second vehicle which was put out by firefighters.

Police say both drivers were checked by paramedics and sustained no injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Owen Sound Police say a road side breath test was conducted on the 31-year-old Owen Sound woman who ran through the red light.

Police say she failed the test and was arrested. City Police say she later provided two samples of breath into an approved instrument and both were over the legal limit.

The 31-year-old was charged with operation while impaired and also hit with a Highway Traffic Act offence of Red Light Fail to Stop.

She will appear in court next week to answer to the charges.
