No Cars On Part Of Sauble Beach

Saugeen First Nation | by Claire McCormack

Safety and litter concerns have prompted Saugeen First Nation to limit cars on the beach.

Saugeen First Nation has closed a portion of its beach to cars.

A July 23rd band council resolution states the roughly 1.5 km stretch of beach from Silver Lake Road to French Bay Road will be closed to public drivers and open to band members only.

The resolution cites concerns over safety and litter.

While band members can still drive on the beach, signs were to be posted directing the public to other access points.

The section of beach is not totally closed, just closed to cars driven by the public.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has also struggled this summer to manage the 150,000 or so tourists who flood into the area on long weekends causing traffic jams and leaving litter in their wake.
