Ian MacKay of Port Elgin is a midfielder for Canada and was among the goal scorers for Canada.

With the victory, Canada concludes the Preliminary Round at 4 & 1 and advances to the Semifinal tomorrow against either the Iroquois Nationals or Puerto Rico


Lacrosse Canada Release

Kevin Crowley had a goal and three assists as Canada wrapped up preliminary-round play with a 13-7 win over Australia on Tuesday at the world lacrosse championship.

Mark Matthews and Ben McIntosh each had two goals and an assist for defending champion Canada, which finished pool play with a 4-1 record.

Curtis Dickson scored twice and Wesley Berg and Joshua Byrne each had a goal and an assist for Canada, while Mark Cockerton, Tre Leclaire, Ian MacKay and Jeffrey Teat also scored.

Dillon Ward made 10 saves while allowing seven goals. He was replaced with 3:50 left to play in regulation by Brennan Donville, who wasn't tasked with making a save.

Christopher Robertson had three goals for Australia (2-3). Alex Brown, Isaac Cahill, Nigel Morton and Christopher Plumb also scored.

Sean Aaron allowed seven goals for Australia while making just three saves. He was replaced at the half by Ryan Spark, who allowed six goals and made four saves.

The United States defeated England 19-2 later Tuesday to finish at 5-0 and finish ahead of Canada for first place in the Blue group. Both teams advanced directly into Thursday's semifinals.

Canada will play the winner of a match between the Iroquois Nationals and Puerto Rico in the semis.
