The Huron County Historical Society is looking for financial help from local governments and organizations to come up with a viable way to store and preserve historical materials.
At this week’s Huron County Council meeting, representatives from the society shared the benefit of appropriate archival storage, and are looking for $10,000 – $15,000 in funding to find a solution.
They said that historical artifacts in local collections aren’t being preserved correctly because of a lack of archival facilities within the county, which means that items such as photographs and documents are at risk of being lost.
Recently, the Huron County Museum & Historical Gaol had also mentioned a need for assistance in finding safe storage space for artifacts and museum resources where historical items may be stored when not on public display.
